Somatic Voice and Yoga Workshop

  • Yoga x Life Studios Yoga x Life, Portland Road Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE2 1DW United Kingdom (map)

Your voice is as unique as your fingerprint - no two voices are the same or ever will be. Our voices are amazing instruments; of relating, of expressing ourselves, and also – if we learn to utilize them - of healing. And they are right here for us, every day! You are invited to come together in a nurturing, trauma-informed space to wake up and liberate your natural voice – a core part of your amazing body.

Voicing in combination with breathwork has a calming effect on the nervous system. Voice practices can not only help to regulate us in the moment, but also tone the vagus nerve, meaning our stress responses become more balanced overall. We can also employ the vibration of the voice as a healing tool; directing sound to resonate in different areas of the body, waking up parts that are not easily sensed through other routes, such as touch or body-scanning methods.

These workshops are suitable for all levels of experience. You might be a seasoned voice user who wants a relaxing retreat space to give your voice and your body some well-deserved love. You might be curious about discovering more of the power of your natural voice for full-body health, enjoyment and expression in your life. Or you might find using your voice challenging and want to experience more confidence, freedom and flow in this area.

You can expect:

- gentle slow-flow yoga and mindful movement to warm the tissues of the body and unwind tension.

- somatic breathwork and gentle voice activation practices

- collaborative vocal improvisation in a safe supported space

- uplifting meditative group singing supported by live instrumental music

- A specially-blended herbal infusion available to nurture and support your voice throughout.

Everyone is invited to explore making sound in a playful and judgement-free environment, but if you don’t want to on the day, you do not have to, you can just come and bask in the sound healing of the group.

The workshop will be run in two parts; you do not have to attend both to receive benefit, but we recommend doing so to get the full experience and build a sense of familiarity and trust within the group. You will be offered gentle home practices to play with between the sessions.
