The Bhagavad Gita gives us the beautiful definition of Yoga as “Skill in Action,”.
Whilst the first thing that jumps to your mind might be a picturesque and pristine posture, the Bhagavad Gita is much more interested in cultivating the skills that harmonise the way we understand and exist within our world. Its verses are rich with wisdom to rephrase the challenges we might be feeling at work, in our homes and family relationships alongside our more existential niggles…. actually, it doesn’t mention poses at all!
As Yoga practice has evolved though, the place of postures has become increasingly central - and alongside an opportunity to harmonise our physical body and energy, our postural practice also offers us potent insight into our inner workings… to wrestle with, work through, and hopefully release some of our less than skilful means of approaching our practice, ourselves and our wider lives. It has a wonderfully patient way of helping us see what it is we need at that moment!
When we understand our postural explorations can be embedded into a rich philosophical discourse, and embodied as a personal journey (rather than traversed as an impersonal one!) we find evolved meaning and empowerment in our time on the mat.
In this series of workshops we will explore the notion of ‘skill in action’ through movement and contemplation.
Session 1: 12 - 2
Splits, and finding Joy in the Journey.
In this workshop we will explore both the posture and progressions towards splits, alongside some of the mythic stories associated with Hanuman. Contemplating making leaps of faith, alongside sizing up the task and ultimately, finding joy and nourishment in the process, whilst letting go of the entanglement of attachment to outcomes.
This session is accessible for all levels interested in exploring how philosophy can be embedded and embodied in an asana practice.
Price: £32 with discounts of upto 30% for studio membership holders.
Session 2. 2.30 -4.30
Wheels & Bows… where your attention Goes…
In this fiery practice we will explore what it is to open the front line through postures such as wheel and bow. Contemplating themes that relate to effectively engaging the reality of the posture (and wider world!) rather than letting our attachments and aversions warp our perception and progress.
Learning how to tune the string of our bow to aim the arrow of our intentions!
This session is accessible for all levels with variations taught from the ground through to advanced options and is also priced at £32 with discounts of upto 30% for studio membership holders.
